Rebuilt distributors carried out in house.
We have tried to get these rebuilt by several companies, however the required Standard we want is sadly lacking, so in 2009 we set about rebuilding them ourselves, here is how we do it:
Clean all grease & dirt off the casing & examine for damaged visible parts & make list,
Strip the distributor into its component parts, examine & add to our list.
Vapour blast the casings & all parts except bearings, send the various plated parts for re-plating - note: we plate the vacuum advance capsule but we dont rebuild it - its not used on Aston Martin DB2 to MkIII.
Alter the advance base plate to the known, for a DB2 to MkIII, safe maximum allowable advance.
Vapour blast the spindle & base plate, check it for true on a lathe,
Assemble all the parts using a new lower bearing specially made for us, measure the spindle & ream out the bearing to one of 3 sizes (using our specially made alignment jig), fitting new top ball bearing, new points, condenser & reliable red rotor arm.
Mount the distributor on our reconditioned Sun Disributor machine, run it up & check for correct advance, misalignment of the 'cam' lobes - this indicates the accuracy of the firing positions, Lucas suggest 3°, test from 200 rpm to 2750 rpm distributor - x 2 for crankshaft speeds.
If required fit a new 'cam' & other parts as required after test, alter the advance curve with our specially made bob weight springs until; align the points firing position so that the rotor arm is pointing to the brass peg on the cap.
We rebuild DB2 distributors to full electronic ignition & test in a similar style.
Examine cap, fit new cap if required, either top entry with acorns or side entry.
When we are happy with the distributor its signed off.
